Public Art Competition
This installation references the minimalist aesthetic of such late 1960s sculptors as Donald Judd and Tony Smith by discarding the conventional elements of sculpture in favor of prefabricated, ordinary, industrial materials placed in an unconventional manner. Making use of simple forms repeated begin to articulate a sense of space, defining of place, a rhythm unfolding across the site.
Created from 18 forty-foot shipping containers, the forms at their peaks will be visible from multiple vantage points throughout the corridor marking a nexus as the rail, interstate, bike and pedestrian paths converge.
The forms are situated on the site to maximize the potential for shade, creating an occupiable urban park within the community. Additional grading offers a gente knoll for dog walking, train spotting or simply a spot to rest along your way, enhancing the sense of community and providing additional green space lacking in the metro area.
